Why Surface Dress?
Surface Dressing is a treatment which is used extensively by Local Authorities to provides a cost effective preventative maintenance solution often to secondary roads. The process involves spraying the road surface with a coating of hot bitumen known as binder prior to the spreading and rolling of chippings. This treatment will be carried out on a suitable prepared surface which will have undergone necessary patching where required and sweeping. Once the chippings are settled into the bitumen, the following will be provided:
(a) texture and skid resistance to surface
(b) seal to the road surface against ingress of water
(c) arrest of disintegration and hence extension to the life of pavement
(d) A uniform smart appearance overlaying any patching works carried out
The cost effective and rapid nature of these works makes it a particularly popular solution for upkeeping private roads. country estate roads, farm roads and footpaths.
